Ingredients
  1. 2 cups sugar
  2. 6 eggs
  3. 1/2 cup oil
  4. 1 tsp salt
  5. 1 tsp soda
  6. 1 tsp cream of tartar
  7. 1 tsp vanilla
  8. 1 tsp nutmeg
  9. 2 c buttermilk
  10. 4 cups flour
Instructions
  1. Beat first 8 ingredients until creamy.
  2. Slowly add 2 cups of buttermilk alternately with flour.
  3. will take 4-5 cups more flour add more if necessary.
Notes
  1. The batter is a little bit tricky to get just right you will usually have to add a little more flour to make the dough flow through your doughnut dropper properly depending on the size of the opening on your dropper, some are adjustable. We used vegetable oil instead of lard, and to check the temperature of the oil, drop a small pinch of flour and see if it sizzles, then we do a little test drop of batter.
